Final Piece: Website

Here is the link to the website for my coursework. I had a little bit of trouble with this so was not able to create as much content and pages as anticipated. However, I am happy with the way my website has turned out.

Coursework: Final Piece

After working on my coursework for 6-8 weeks on both production and post-production, I have finally finished my music video. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges that came with working alone and piecing together each part of my music video. The step up from AS to A2 was difficult to contrast to at first, with having only my opinion and skill set, but after my initial planning and practice I felt much more comfortable. I feel my music video has enabled me to grow massively in my ability to edit and use post-production to enhance my video as well as being able to learn to present a narrative in a non-linear fashion but still allow it to make sense to the audience.

Throughout the production of my music video I also enjoyed being able to put my own stamp on things and be responsible for my own creative decisions. This allowed me to express myself, more than I was able to in a group of 3 from AS, which meant that I felt I could make decisions quicker and add my own personal spin.

Overall, I have enjoyed this experience and have achieved more than I imagined possible.

Stylistic Influences: David Spearing

I gained some inspiration for my music video from one of my favourite directors, David Spearing. David Spearing is a filmmaker and editor who works within the industry creating several different media texts, such as documentaries, music videos, concert films, promotional material for bands and short films.

Firstly, I gained inspiration from Spearing's music video for Hunter & The Bear and their song "Forest On The Hill".

I particularly liked the fact that this video was set outside. The fact that the bands surroundings were green and full of nature and natural surroundings matches the genre of the song. The country feel of the song clearly fits with the visuals, as do the bands clothing. This allowed me to filter in aspects of the outdoors into my music video, along with the idea of a checkered shirt which is a connotation of the leafy surroundings.

Secondly, I gained inspiration from Mcfly's "Love Is Easy" music video.

I liked the fact that this music video was based around memories (or in this case old album artwork as well as memories). This gave me the idea that I should filter in memories of the two characters of my music video and use them to show the kind of unhappy place they were in at present time of the video. I also liked how this music video had some natural features, such as when Tom Fletcher is holding the sing upside down, as it allows the music video to flow better and makes the narrative look more relaxed and realistic. In my music video, i aim to capture some natural moments of my two characters and use them to tell the story of their relationship, making my narrative seem more real and comfortable.

IntoFilm: Year 7 Transition Film

I worked with a group of Year 7 and a professional film-maker to make a short film about transition. I helped the group through all stages of the film making process, including: character profiling, story boarding, costume ideas, filming and post-production. My main role was to help organise the year 7's and make sure they were involved in the film making along with filming running smoothly.

In post-production, I helped to create the final edit of the film and also taught the year 7's basic editing skills. I learned a lot during this experience of how to set up shots, the importance of using clapperboards to identify scenes and prepare shots.

Overall, I feel this experience helped my gain insight into all the aspects of the filming process. For my A2 music video, i feel this has helped to understand how to set up the shots and consider the mise-en-scene. It has also helped me to understand the full process of post-editing and how editing can change the meaning of a scene which is vital in the narrative of my music video.

Filming Day 2...

The aim for filming was to capture all the outdoor shots for my music video. When we arrived at the location, however, it was too bright to film the bits I intended to get done. Instead, I took a few photos that I could use for my CD insert and ones that I could manipulate for my album front cover. So far, I am considering using the first photo as my album cover.
